In 1960, Brabant’s directors had a new and revolutionary idea, offering to recuperate customers’ used solvents and to recycle them by distillation. The aim is to enable manufacturers to reduce the quantity of waste which they have to destroy and to re-use the solvents needed for their activities several times. Nowadays, this is an activity with high added value contributing to the protection of the environment and one of the Group’s biggest areas of growth.

Solvents have a double cost: their purchase and their destruction. Regeneration greatly reduces purchasing of raw materials as well as the volume of waste to be destroyed. This results in significant savings for the customer and contributes to safeguarding the environment.
A “tailor-made” process
Our technical services examine the feasibility of regenerating residual liquors from manufacturing. If regeneration is appropriate, they propose “tailor-made” solutions which meet our customers’ requirements and they determine which process to implement in order to return a regenerated product corresponding to the customer’s specifications.
Once the regeneration process is industrialized, our laboratories control spent materials on arrival at our factories, during their various stages of regeneration and when leaving our sites. They are given a batch number. Thanks to our ISO 9001/2008 certified quality organization and our installations, we are able to return products to our customers which fully comply with their specifications.
High-performance technologies and processes
Among other things, the regeneration process consists of submitting soiled solvents to an appropriate distillation process which separates the reusable components from products which are considered as waste. The complexity and the extent of the problems posed by spent waste from manufacturing makes it necessary to use appropriate tools to regenerate them (dedicated installations where appropriate).
In addition to software designed for the regeneration process, Brabant uses high-performance equipment to work on a wide range of solvents: alcohols, hydrocarbons, chlorines, amides, thinners, etc. as well as fragile molecules.
This type of equipment includes stainless steel or vitrified boilers, thin scraped film and distillation columns making separation in a vacuum or under atmospheric pressure. This equipment is designed to work continuously or in batches and is used for azeotropic and extractive distillation. Each operation is individual (specific distillation by batch) in order to avoid all sources of cross pollution. Quantities taken into account vary from 4 to 30m³ and over, in bulk or in barrels. In addition to this equipment, we also own liquid extraction equipment, cartridge and pocket filters and press filters.
A “tailor-made”, complete service which respects regulations
Personalized technical assistance, controlled packaging, transport complying with ADR regulations and the destruction of distillation residue in authorized centres are just a few of the services provided by Brabant. We can also fill in BSDs* with the CAP** number and provide labels for the spent waste returned in barrels or containers.
